I've been using my voice professionally since I was 8 years old for commercials, radio, vocal improv and musical performance, teaching, and public speaking. My voice over experience includes commercials for radio and television, narration for video, and a set of phone systems for a group of locative media art projects around the world.
A university graduate with degrees in English and Marketing, I have 20 years of experience working professionally as a journalist, marketing director, editor of two art & lit journals and a professional blog, as an advertising copywriter, new media producer, and digital media/audio artist. For the last 8 years I have led an international public art project called [murmur], which annotates outdoor spaces world-wide with relevant recorded audio memories from hundreds of people. I am trained as an instructor in the methods of the Center for Digital Storytelling, out of Berkeley, California, which promotes and facilitates community media making, including writing and recording voice overs. I am also a vocal improv performer and singer and lead classes in a modality called Journey Dance, which requires I use my voice to guide visualizations for participants.
Specific training related to voice work includes:
-Kim Hurdon School of Voice; Toronto, Ontario - completion of several courses in commercial voice-over
-Centre for Digital Storytelling; Berkeley, California - Participant in open workshops, sometime co-instructor of digital storytelling with Center Director Joe Lambert, and trained as a CDS instructor
-The Element Choir, 2006-present - perform with a range of musical and other artists as part of this professional jazz vocal improv troupe
-Toronto Vocal Cobra, 2006-2008 - performer with this experimental vocal improv troupe based on the work of John Zorn
I have a professional recording rig for voice.
